The problem is that too many centre owners are asking too much of Mike for use of their arenas.

He's getting ours very cheap for the Zone portion of the tourney and free for the Quasar portion of the tourney on the next day (as we can split our partition into 2 4,000 sq.ft arenas - thus still allowing normal games in on a sunday at the same time as giving a bit back to the players)

At the end of the day this will allow him to spend a bit more on some of the other kits - but bearing in mind some sites are suffering with the economy and everything, they are trying to milk customers for everything they can get.

The tourney runs once a year - I use it as a bit of marketing for us, thus offset that against what I would charge if it was a corporate event. If other owners followed suit, it'd be more cost effective for everyone, more people would come, more people would go back to their centres after the event, etc.. etc..

just think that if you can use a different site each year then you should.

and playing 2 systems in 1 arena takes the fun out of it

Well Technically Huddersfield could be counted as 3 seperate arenas. In that it can be used full length or split into two which changes the arena completely. Yeah the decor is the same but if your paying to much attention to the decor your prob guna get shot.

The ethos behind Armageddon is to keep things changing where possible, while striking a balance between making a quality event and keeping costs low. This is not an easy thing to juggle! Some systems such as LaserForce prevent us from doing that by the virtue of having only a single site. Other systems limit us by time slots, cost and how well some site operators maintain their equipment. Ultimately the route is never perfect and is always compromise!

To make the event work this year we are picking up Huddersfield, this will be the second year we are picking up the site in a row. Last year we picked up DarkLight in Bristol for the second time in a row, so this is not without precident, and this is the first time I've heard a comment on repeating arenas. I guess this will become more of an issue as the event ages as is becomes harder to avoid repeating sites!

Going forward I hope to keep repeat arena use to a minimum, two years repeat use is fine, three years becomes more of an issue and is something I would like to avoid... but that also depends on finding viable alternatives.

In Huddersfield the arena is split in to two, the old and new sections. When we play there the arena will have been split, with MegaZone T2 only being played in the old section, while Quasar will be played in the new section. These sections are totally different and are effectively two very different arenas. While this does give home-site players an advantage, that will have minimal impact compared to knowing the system given that we are playing Quasar.

You play LQ and you talk about fun? Hmmm... :P

Like others have said, our place technically is 3 different arenas - also depending on the lasertag hardware you use, it makes things completely different again.

The place was designed not only with generic traffic flow in mind, but also to make games more interesting, whether it be the old end, new end or full length. This way we get the best of everything.

The problem is the sites - Rochdate LQ is in a bowling alley and the staff just don't give a chuff, Trafford Centre LQ is kiddie-central and full of bunny hunters.

Not been to Hull or Carlisle, so can't comment.

One thing though, if the price is right I may be getting hold of some r16 packs soon. That'll bring back some memories.

While the venue is the same the systems and area they are played in are completely different, so I don't have a problem with it from that angle at all. I don't object to playing the same arena for multiple systems, again as was done in Swindon in 2007 without comment. Its arrangements like these that allow me to run the event at its price point.

It is a shame about the lack of good LQ players around the country. It seems the talent is limited to the south west of England.

Carlisle isn't a bad site (played there once a few years back), and from the looks of it's website has quite a few members today.
